Eight church choirs and ensembles, two groups of praise dancers, one
drill team, several booths with free health screenings and information
attracted a large crowd to Douglass National Bank’s third annual
Community Day, Saturday, July 30, at the bank’s 1314 North 5th
Street location in Kansas City, Kansas.
An estimated 600 persons attended and enjoyed the annual event that
Douglass hosts to say thank you to the community the bank serves year-round.
“We
were thrilled with the turnout that was steady all day long,”
said Lester W. Johnson, Douglass president/CEO. “The Gospel Jubilee
was a new feature at the Community Day this year, and one that brought
people from throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan Area to the event.”
Janet Canady, Douglass vice president, business development, added,
“The temperatures were hot, but we provided warm Douglass hospitality
that included free beverages, hotdogs, sno-cones and ice cream. Everyone
appeared to be having a good time!”
Church groups performing included Christ Temple Pentecostal Church:
Hype Choir and Praise Dancers; St. Paul COGIC – Youth Choir ;
Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church – Mass Choir; St. Monica Catholic
Church; Union Hill Baptist Church (Praise Dancers) and Mason Temple
Institutional Church of God in Christ.
Organizations
providing health screenings and/or free health information included
Central States Seventh Day Adventist Health Van, Providence Medical
Center, Wyandot Center for Community Behavioral Healthcare and the Wyandotte
County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Also on hand were representatives
and vehicles of the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department and Police Department.
Touch of Class, a Kansas City, Kan., drill team capped off the day
with a lively performance.
“We want to acknowledge the performers, the organizations that
donated supplies to the event and our many friends in the community
who came out in record numbers to enjoy Community Day 2005,” said
Jan.
